Thomas Bernstrand

Ingeniously solved problems. Thomas Bernstrand’s designs are based on an idea that is so obvious and strong that the design seems to find itself. He aimsto create everyday products that say something about our lives in a personal and charming way. Like the bookshelf Ivy for Swedese, a type of puzzle that eliminates the need for bookends because of the way it leans.

 
Thomas Bernstrand was born in Bromma outside Stockholm in 1965 and trained at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design, the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm, and at the Danish Design School in Copenhagen. He has run his own studio Bernstrand and Co since 1999 specialising mainly in furniture design, and also ornamentation of public outdoor environments.

 

 Bernstrand has won several awards, including the prestigious Bruno Mathsson prize, the DIM Design Award in Valencia and the Swedish Association of Architects’ Siena prize.
