Kern - Stone reimagined

Monica Förster, one of Scandinavia’s leading designers, has created Kern — a striking new table series for Fogia crafted from upcycled marble waste. The material, called Outt, is composed of around 85% marble, using both chips and dust salvaged from quarries in Northern Italy.

Förster began the design process with this innovative material, shaping it into a bold, brutalist form softened by hand-broken corners. Each Kern table is unique, with a brushed, irregular surface that celebrates the raw beauty of stone. Built from just four slabs, the design is deceptively simple in structure yet rich in expression and presence.

For Förster, Kern is both functional object and poetic sculpture, intended to evoke emotion and connection. The design references typography, with silhouettes resembling three-dimensional letters, and embraces imperfection as a form of beauty. One of its defining features—the broken corners—was inspired by a damaged prototype, transforming accident into artistry.

Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, Kern is available in coffee and side table versions, offered in White, Grey, or Terracotta Brown. Balancing ancient and contemporary aesthetics, Kern is at once weighty and graceful, rough and refined.
