The Artist's Residence

For Melbourne Design Week 2023, Fred International and Halcyon Lake presented The Artist’s Residence. A uniquely curated apartment space in the historic Foy and Gibson precinct in Collingwood showcasing a collection of art & object, furniture, rugs and lighting that sets the scene of the home of an artisan collector. As if collected and created over time, the objects in the performative space immerse the guest into the mind of our artisan in residence, V.Brokkr.

Curated by Without Studios, the apartment becomes an artist’s haven of creativity and comfort.

Exploring the legacy of historic architecture within the context of contemporary living. Through four different rooms that serve as an exhibition space for lighting designs from LYFA, furniture from Duxiana, Fogia, BRDR Kruger, rugs from Reuber Henning and sculptures & ceramics from a selection of carefully curated artists from James Makin Gallery.

Meandering through each room, the visitor gains a sense of stillness in time, surrounded by sound by Bang & Olufsen and material samples, tools and sketches - the residence contrasts creative energies with ornamental detail. The staging will be almost theatrical, allowing the audience to glimpse the artistic process by pairing different creative partners.
