Serpentine Easy Chair

Serpentine is a finely balanced easy chair defined by clean lines and an expressive S-curve that feels both familiar and forward-looking. Designed by Broberg and Ridderstråle, the chair takes cues from Scandinavian design history while confidently stepping into the contemporary. Slender steel tubes sweep around the sculpted shell, transitioning from delicate to more robust where strength is needed, before resting on small stainless-steel feet that subtly catch the light. Every detail has been carefully considered, from the refined articulation of the frame to the way the shell appears lightly suspended. Fully demountable for maintenance and reupholstery, Serpentine is designed to evolve over time. Upholstery, padding and armrest options allow the chair to shift in character, adapting to different interiors and uses while retaining its clear, elegant identity.

Broberg & Ridderstråle

Sometimes you want to whisper and sometimes shout. Just like Mats Broberg and Johan Ridderstråle’s design. Their pieces can both make a splash and be unobtrusive, as their design is both rational and captivating. Broberg and Ridderstråle likes to look at history and intertwine it with contemporary life to create something rooted in tradition, but not retro. Like Swedese’s table Divido – made entirely of wood, modern-looking and a subtle nod to Yngve Ekström’s classic Lamino.

Mats Broberg was born in 1974 in Stockholm and Johan Ridderstråle in 1979 in Lund. They met at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design where they both studied interior design. Many collaborations, from their graduation piece to an offer to exhibit in Japan, opened the way to their joint office.
