BD1 Lounge Chair

The BD1 Lounge Chair transforms a simple typographic gesture into a distinctive piece of furniture. Strictly minimalist yet playful in character, its curved form has earned it the nickname the Comma.

Designed by Björn Dahlström and first launched at Milan’s Salone del Mobile more than 30 years ago, BD1 has since become part of modern design history. It is held in the permanent collections of both the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg.

Clear, graphic and immediately recognisable, the design avoids belonging to any particular era. Its disciplined construction is balanced by an almost naïve, comic-book-like quality, giving BD1 an enduring presence that feels both serious and unexpected.
